siesta art space...................................open call to visual artists......................WOW!!

  • Rating: 5 after 1 vote
ALL: I have rented a nice house that is in rough shape and is in pending litigation. It may be months or years untill the mess is fully cleared up. In the mean time the house is rented by me for the purpose of having a artist shared work space. The property is on a Canal on Avenida de Mayo in Siesta Village. My idea is to have 5-10 other hard working artists come in clean the place and set it up for studio and show space for the up coming season. I was a member of 6 days art co-op in Portland Oregon, and would propose to set up shop about like we were organized in Portland (please feel free to visit their web site.)This is not a living situation. It is a art shared space!

There will be an organizational meeting on Saturday November 7 at the studio. Please contact Ed Mehrman @ fishsiesta@yahoo.com for details.

Ken, Things happened very fast last week and very few people are ready to take over a house for the purpose of making art. The door is still wide open for anyone who wants to share the space. The rent is about $100.00 a month per person and would include electricity and water. I also have a dock out back for a small boat and have my RV in the driveway. The house is not that far away from liveable. I had some friends come out and clean the yard and pick up all the trash left in the house. It is ready to go. I just need some aspiring artists who want to work and show together. In all honesty I think the sitation could go on for a year or so.

Ken sure thing. My phone number is 941.807.7474
Call me an I will give you the address. Regarding how many artists and work space. Well I don't know for sure but there are 2 bedrooms and a large living room and a great room and a covered porch area. I was thinking 5 6 7,? The rent is very low. I am looking more for the energy that the number of artists.I would like to turn part of the house into an ongoing show space, have some openings/open studio shows. it really depends on the artists themselves. Please look at six days art. The site of the group I belonged to in Portland. I think they had it right. In that case we just had a store front and no one really did much art at the store. We did share expenses and a common goal to sell our art. I think this situation could morph into a co-op for aspiring artists.

Right now I need help and people,it is sort of a bummer to have this great space and no other artists.I can't understand the lack of intrerest. I am going to put it out on Craig's list today.

call me 8077474 I don't want to just post the address here. It is not on the main drag, but close to the village. We would have to do a "open studio show" or something like that.

Ed,
I'm a part-time (wish I was full-time) Sarasota-area artist looking for space for the months of January and February and possibly part of March. I'm a pastelist that basically needs a "dirty" area to work in, and a relatively "clean" area in which to frame. I'm happy to help with any studio tour you might want to develop. I'm interesting in getting involved with fellow artists in the area in preparation for a permanent move to the area. I'm totally flexible, don't need storefront.

Any thoughts on perhaps offering classes or workshops? I have a lot of customers in the area always asking if I give them. I simply don't have space in which to do so. This is not a requirement for me, however.

Here's my website and blog addresses: www.meredithkuntzsch.com AND www.meredithkuntzsch.blogspot.com

Thanks,
Meredith

Hi Edward -- I left Las Vegas in May after 4 years in the Painter's and Allied Trades Union. My specialty (in the hotel-casino business) was and still is making shabby places look like palaces. I'm a faux-finisher, muralist, and specialty painter by trade and a fine artist by instinct. Give me a call at 415-244-9445, and I'll come out and take a look at the place. It sounds as if it could be fabulous. Jack

I was in a successful co-op up North before before I came year 15 years ago. I have hoped to find another one.
I am interested in knowing the location and how you plan to build traffic.
