I've been on this site and part of this group since the beginning but didn't participate much. And now that I log on with that Networking and Whatchadoin'? spirit, this group is dead in the water since Nov.  WAKE UP! please. I've left the SRQ burbs for lively downtown (at least this time of year) and -- finally -- a big, separate studio. I know that some of you must be out there making jewelry so  talk about it!   And, I'm curious, where did you go, why did you disappear, what would make this a more dynamic group?    Kathie

I'm here!  Needed a break after the Christmas rush.  I love Christmas and the season and it is the best time of year for independent artists who make a living at their art.  Hence a little down time that consisted of working on new designs for 2011 is what I am up to.  Thanks for the wake up!

Well, I have been busy and kinda waiting on some "interesting" comments to pop here. I do my own lapidary work, faceting, and casting. Lately I have been exploring some new ideas. I have been using my Cricut (the scrapbooking paper cutting machine) to design and create jewelry models. Layering the cutouts to create a 3D prototype that I often dip in jewelers carving wax to add more complexity and details, and then casting them in Delft Clay. It has really worked out nice. I have made rings and pendants in silver and pewter using this method. Here is a link to some of my Cricuted designs. http://www.daniellcraftsandgems.com/Cricut.html

Let me know what you think.

Yay! Voices from jewelry artists! I understand how we get wrapped up in our work or need down time after an intense period but I'm so glad to hear from you both. Duane, you are indeed amazing...your concept is brilliant. I do alot of acid etching but the effect is usually more delicate, depending on the sheet gauge I use and the design itself. I just returned from an intensive workshop at the Revere Academy in San Francisco. It was focused on stonesetting but we used gravers constantly so I'm more comfortable working with them now. I may experiment with some engraving. Meanwhile I'm finishing some commissions and then tackling my box of unfinished projects. And your bench looks alot more chaotic than mine! I'd love to see your Cricut work in person some time.    ~Kathie
