- About Me
- Sean begin his art career in 1965 at the age of 5, drawing pictures of cars and selling them on his front yard with his brother for 5 cents a piece, to save up to buy Matchbox toy cars.
As Sean's art progressed, he moved from cars to people. At 9 years old, Sean had his first art show, a father and son show at the Hilton Leech Art gallery in Sarasota, Florida, giving him his first exposure to the public. From that point on, Sean worked his way from pictures that featured people and cars, to the different medias of sculpture. From working with clay, making ceramic art tiles, to making whimsical nautical bronze sculptures, that featured everything from a cowboy riding a dolphin, to a whale turned into a jet, with flames coming out of the engines by his back fin, Sean created more and more.
Today, he creates original bronze sculptures, is completing a line of unique positive message books for children & adults and runs a specialty mail order business for sculptors.

Workshops in Venice, Florida USA for Bronze Casting Sculpture, teaching "Direct wax sculpting" with the Lost-Wax Shellspen Ceramic Shell process.
As well as Bronze Jewelry Pendant workshops in Venice, Sarasota, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Ybor City Tampa, FLORIDA.
Sean is teaching classes & workshops on Bronze casting, and will share his 36 years of professional experience with students on techniques, tips, and styles of Sculpture casting. Students will work hands on, and learn how to sculpt a direct wax, attach feeding gates to the wax. Coat the wax with the Shellspen ceramic shell process, watch the bronze poured into their own sculpture. Then the castings will be devested, and the feeding gates cut off, sandblasted to remove the ceramic shell mold, leaving the students with their own bronze casting in the rough for the "basic workshop". At this point if the student would like the "extended workshop", the bronze casting will be refined and a patina finish will be put on. Leaving the student a finished bronze.
Students will be limited in size to a bronze casting weighing no more than 7 lb. / 3.2 Kilos, with most castings being about the size of your hand. The limits on the size of the bronze castings, are due to our one-man bronze foundry (which is also portable to come to your location), and when beginning sculpture casting, it is always recommended to start small, where you can easily control the results, plus learn the complete lost-wax ceramic shell process easily.
With this class / workshop students will be knowledgeable in Bronze casting (and all metal casting), and with time, education and experience the sculptor will progress from simple designs to complex works of sculpture, that they can use these learned techniques to build from.
Sculpture, figurines, plaques, abstracts, jewelry, animal sculptures from horses, cats & dogs & more, antique auto parts reproductions, motorcycle parts and sculpture accessories, machine parts, and just about anything you can imagine from sculpture, to machine parts..
At the completion of the workshop, the student will be given a signed Certificate of Completion from Sean Colson & Shellspen International, stating they are trained & knowledgeable in this process, which they can use for employment in foundries. We will also work with the students school to negotiate credit hours for this workshop.

I do still have two of the planters, at my house with flowers in them . they've gotten a bit worn through the years but their still my favorite. They have lion heads all around the bottom, and designs on the sides and top. I was driving down osprey ave. one day , years ago, and noticed all the planters on the sides of the street. I qeustioned debbie walk about them and she said they were part of the ringling beautification of the streets of sarasota. I wish someone with tons of money would replace the broken ones and continue the effort all through the city. Most everything I paint is a reflection of something related to ringling. even my fearies, I love to paint the banyan trees and paint fearies in them. I'll be in towles court again soon, at de ja brew, coffee house and gallery, I'd like to send an invite to the opening when we decide the date. I'll keep in touch, maybe we could do some business, like an art show and reception with your work sometime. I'd like to plan lots of events and gatherings once we open.

I love your work. I checked out the ringling urn. I have a friend that reproduced a flower pot from the ringling collection, and I took pictures of it and showed debbie walk. She said there where none on the estate, but I found out Charles Ringling had given John and Mable a pair of the pots as a wedding present. I have two left at my house, I sold them and others at my gallery when I was in towles court. I was so excited to learn the history and love seeing anything having to do with the art of Ringling and its history. Your art is super and hope to see more. ...rilla
