About Me
Ramona Mayer, a native of Arkansas, has lived in Sarasota, Florida for twenty years. The daughter of an Army helicopter pilot, she was born in Nuremberg Germany and has moved around the United States extensively. As a recent graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in Art she is now pursuing a graduate degree in Education at Nova Southeastern University. Her intent will be to teach Art in a public school setting upon graduation. As an award winning artist in various mediums she is accomplished in a variety of artistic fields including sculpture, illustrative design, ceramics, photography, and painting. She has had solo exhibitions, received numerous awards in group exhibitions, and has art work in private collections. Upon the completion of her first year of formal art training she was awarded the prestigious Women Contemporary Artist Scholarship Award in 2005 for outstanding ability in studio fine art. She is also a member artist of the Women Contemporary Artists of Sarasota, FL. She teaches “Painting With the Masters“, a fine art painting class, to children ages 6 and up. Her work may be seen at The Dancing Crane Gallery, 1019 10th Ave. W., Bradenton, FL.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
The usage of color and spatial disorientation are the principal concerns in my work. My compositions are comprised of the sensuous curve of our natural world where line, color, shape, and space interlock in relationship. Drawing on the lush power of nature’s bounty I use an intensely vivid color palette. How these natural elements absorb and reflect light creates the color, shadows, mood, and shape the experience of my paintings. The compositions do not relate to the object as much as they appeal to the perception of spatial orientation and color as a separate experience. In many ways color becomes the subject. The compositional implication of the sinuous undulation of line, edge, density, depth, and the perception of space are found in my paintings. My work is most closely aligned with the Color-Field movements in that not only are my concerns with color usage and abstractionist compositions but also in the utilization of our natural world as a source of inspiration. It is a personal quest of mine to produce a painting that embodies what is spiritually important to me, the essence of our natural world. I take this intent with me to the canvas and convey my spiritual connections with our natural world through the paint brush. The truth, beauty, and simplicity of this essence is embedded in my work as my paintings are a part of my physicality and spirituality through harmony and balance with the universe. In painting I investigate the power of color and the undulation of form that will evoke a sense of both the near and the far, the observed and the abstract, and the familiar and the exquisite.

The picture was from the ACA's first Mad hatter's Tea Party. Mom took a "cheese head hat" and made it into a "Very Merry Un-birthday" hat. Mine was this wacky thing created from the croquet match with the Queen, complete with a deck of cards. You can tell how much fun the Tea is by the looks on our face. Hope you can attend.

Hi Ramona,

I'd really like to see the Women Contemporary Artists and your friends from the North Port Art Center here on AnythingArts.com. My dream is to provide a place for artists and arts lovers to mingle, share work and for this to be a real and functioning community. In fact, I would like to have an AnythingArts.com exhibit in 2009, we will feature art of every medium including music, dance and video. My plan would be to have it as a moving exhibition for North Port, Venice, Sarasota and Manatee Art Centers. I am especially interested in engaging youth artists, as well.

Please invite everyone you now to join us. Have a great week, Rick
