Art Uptown 'Artists in Action' May 22, 2010

Art Uptown on lower Main Street, Sarasota, presents an "Artists in Action" day of artist demonstrations on Saturday, May 22. The free demonstrations will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the gallery at 1367 Main St.

Participating artists include Janine Hoffman, who will demonstrate her colored pencil drawing techniques, and Cecile Moran, who will paint with acrylics. In addition, John Greely, Pablo Rodriguez and Brendan Coudal will demonstrate their oil painting techniques.

According to Ingrid Petri, gallery manager, Art Uptown, Sarasota’s oldest cooperative fine art gallery, has been continuously exhibiting the works of local artists for over 27 years. Nearly 30 artist members offer painting, photography, digital art, ceramic works and fine art pottery, sculpture, fiber art, mixed media and works in colored pencil, wood and leaded glass.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 11-5 and Saturday 10-4. The monthly First Friday Gallery Walk is always a popular time at Art Uptown, since many of the artists are at the gallery to discuss their work. Gallery Walk evening hours are 6-9. Telephone 941-955-5409. www.artuptown.com.
